Sitges Town Council has made a commitment to promote a tourism model based on environmental, cultural and socioeconomic sustainability, bearing in mind that both its residents, and a large number of visitors and tourists live and coexist in Sitges.

To this end, in collaboration with the private sector and with the main agents involved in the destination’s tourism management, in 2016 it obtained the Biosphere Destination certification.

Sitges continues its dedicated commitment to quality, environmental sustainability and social responsibility as a tourist destination, fundamental points for the international standard evaluated to grant the ‘Biosphere Destination’ certificate.

In 2020, Sitges has renewed the certification achieved in 2016. The implementation of the 2017-2022 Tourism Quality Plan and the current coastal and beach management system were the strong points of the audit.

Biosphere Destination is a private, independent certification acknowledged worldwide by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and promoted by the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI), an independent organism connected to UNESCO and a member affiliated with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), which promotes sustainable tourism activities within the sphere of profitability: environmental, cultural and socioeconomic.

As a fellow member of the Biosphere Community Factor 3 Events can create tailored sustainable event programmes in Sitges and the surrounding area. Thanks to its location, flanked on one side by lovely beaches and on the other by stunning countryside, there is so much to do! From visits and tastings at nearby organic wineries, sailing regattas and amazing cycle routes in the adjacent Garraf hills, to local organic cookery classes, as well as reforestation projects. In and around Sitges, the choices are plentyful and we thoroughly recommend it as a destination for both meetings and incentives.
